Overview

The NAP SACC program addressed the policies, practices and environmental characteristics of day care facilities, focusing on the nutritional quality of food provided, the strength of their physical activity programming, the staff-child interactions and the characteristics of the day care environment. Methods: Quasi-experimental design, pre-post-test. Results: At preprogram assessment; most of the 17 centers were already implementing 25 of 38 (66%) nutrition and 10 of 18 (55.5%) physical activity best practices identified on the NAP SACC assessment tool. Overall, the number of child care centers implementing 49 of the 56 (87.5%) best practices increased by 40%. Implications: Outcomes have shown improvements on both nutritional and physical activity components.
