Category Page: Cardiovascular Disease

Cardiovascular diseases affect the circulatory system including the heart and blood vessels. There are six types of Cardiovascular diseases: Ischemic heart disease, Cerebrovascular disease, Peripheral vascular disease, Heart failure, Rheumatic heart disease, and Congenital heart disease. While they are one of the leading causes of death for men and women in Canada, in many cases these diseases are preventable. Activities such as stress management, healthy diet, regular physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight, not smoking, and avoiding alcohol abuse, help stop the development of cardiovascular disease. Controlling diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol are also helpful in the prevention of these diseases.
