Health trends in Alberta, a working document

The health trends initiative, led by the Surveillance and Environmental Health Branch of Alberta Health and Wellness, supports the national endeavour on health indicators. Health trends in Alberta, a working document is the primary communications tool for the Health trends initiative. It provides technical information on a number of health and health determinant indicators.


British Columbia

Population and public health indicators for British Columbia

The selection of indicators for this report, by the Population and Public Health Evidence and Data Expert Group, was based on their relevance to population health and the health care system. The updated list of health indicators has been set within a modified Canadian Institute for Health Information framework with information on health status, determinants of health, health system performance, health system characteristics as well as core functions and core public health programs

Indicators for a healthy built environment in BC

This report, from the Provincial Health Services Authority, acknowledges that the characteristics of the built environment have significant effects on population health. To support the implementation of intervention programs, and evaluate their effectiveness, a set of indicators for the healthy built environment was identified.


Manitoba

The 2013 RHA [Regional Health Authority] indicators atlas

This report was produced by the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy to provide indicators of population health status, health care use, and quality of care for residents of all 16 Regional Health Authorities of Manitoba. It includes 105 indicators covering many aspects of health status and health care use, and is intended to assist RHAs in preparing their comprehensive Community health assessment reports.


Newfoundland

HealthScope: Reporting to Newfoundlanders and Labradorians on comparable health and health system indicators

This report, from the Department of Health and Community Services, provides information on the set of comparable health indicators for the province which were identified through the First Ministers’ Communiqué on Health in 2000. The indicators address health status, outcomes of health services, as well as quality of health services and the report compares these indicators with those of other Atlantic Provinces and with Canada as a whole.


Ontario

Measuring the health of infants, children and youth for public health in Ontario: Indicators, gaps and recommendations for moving forward

This report from Public Health Ontario presents sixty-seven ready-to-report core indicators (with definitions and data sources) that correspond to the requirements of the Ontario Public Health Standards and priority areas for several less developed indicators. The report also recommends 10 system-level actions to promote population health assessment and surveillance for children in Ontario.

Maintaining the gains, moving the yardstick: Ontario health status report

This report from the Chief Medical Officer of Health in Ontario, includes 12 health indicators that can be measured, monitored over time and address key health challenges – healthy human development, chronic diseases and injuries, and the factors that influence them. It takes a “life course” approach which means that the indicators measure some key health issues during the course of the lifespan, and describe how they relate to each other. It also offers baseline measurements for each of these indicators against which progress can be measured over time.

Population health indicators

Thirty-four indicators are presented to reflect the current state of Ontario’s public health system. The indicators fall into two categories 1) population health related and 2) governance and accountability related. Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.


Prince Edward Island

Prince Edward Island health indicators

This report by the Prince Edward Island Department of Health is organized using the framework developed by the Canadian Institute of Health Information and Statistics Canada. The categories used in the framework are: Health status, non-medical determinants of health, health system performance, and community and health system characteristics. The report uses data primarily from the Canadian Community Health Survey to compare findings over time with the rest of Canada.
