Category Page: Social environments

Social environments are the surroundings, culture and relationships within which a specific group functions and interacts. They are experienced at many levels: family, household, friends, school, workplace, neighbourhood, towns, cities, regions, and nation. Living in a supportive, stable society with strong social networks helps reduce or avoid many potential risks to good health. The strength of social networks are reflected in the institutions, organizations and informal giving practices that people create to share resources and build attachments with others. The values and norms of a society will also influence the health and well-being of individuals and populations.
